Bing Wright’s images are often described as ‘poetical stillness’ as they portray beauty, peace and creativity at the same time. He is a New York-based photographer, born in Seattle. He is also famous for his other collection of images such as ”greyscape” and ”water on the mirror”.
The images are meticulously constructed through a combination of traditional documentary landscape photographs and the subtle manipulations of an image in the studio. Wright projects photographs sunsets that uses a projector to project them onto the mirrors. For my images, I will be taking the mirror out with me reflecting the scene of the mirror itself and try to achieve a similar effect with a different technique.
Over the years Wright’s photography has been marked by a focus n surface as a metaphor for the photographs itself, with his work achieving a poetics stillness as a result.
So I took inspiration from Bing Wrights images and purchased a mirror which I smashed and stuck back together. I took the mirror to central London Soho during the day time and I tried to find anything colourful or any neon lighting that would look nice as a reflection in the mirror.
For the last image, I experimented with editing techniques and edited some of the mirror pieces black and white. I didn’t really like it so I left the other ones alone.
