Jason Brooks

Jason Brooks joined Autry Denson's staff in 2019 as the defensive line coach. Brooks comes to CSU after a two-year stint at Colby College in Maine.

Brooks’ defensive line set new CSU records in the 2019 season in his first year in the trenches with the Bucs. Three Bucs (Anton Williams, Shaundre Mims, and Nick Salley) earned First Team All-Big South recognition with Mims (10.0 sacks) and Salley (17.5 TFL) leading the conference in their respective individual categories. Mims earned Sophomore HERO Sports All-American honors following his redshirt sophomore campaign to highlight the Bucs, while Salley was named an AP Third Team All-American.

The Bucs set the CSU single season sack record with 35.0, while posting the conference’s sixth-most tackles for loss (95.0) in a single season. Salley was also the Big South’s individual forced fumbles leader (3), while Williams finished the season seventh in FCS in tackles for loss per game (1.7).

Prior to his time at Colby, Brooks coached defensive backs and special teams at FIU. In his four years with the Panthers, Brooks' secondary helped FIU jump from 11th to 3rd in Conference USA in total defense between the 2013 and 2014 seasons. Specifically during the 2014 season, his secondary set the school record in pick sixes (5) and ranked second in the nation in defensive touchdowns (6).

Brooks spent time with the NFL's Baltimore Ravens as an offensive assistant and offensive quality control from May 2009 to February 2013.  He worked with the wide receivers and running backs coaches during his time with the Ravens. Brooks was also part of the 2012 Super Bowl champion team when the Ravens beat the San Francisco 49ers.

Brooks also worked as a scouting assistant for the Miami Dolphins in 2007-2008, worked with Dolphins tight ends on a Bill Walsh NFL Diversity Coaching Fellowship. He was involved in the NFL Draft and free agency process by generating and compiling information on eligible and available players.

A 2006 graduate of Middle Tennessee State University, Brooks was a student assistant coach for the Blue Raiders, working with running backs and special teams for the 2006 season.

Brooks’ late father, Clarence, coached 24 years in the NFL and 17 years in college. He worked as the defensive line coach for the Ravens, Dolphins, Cleveland Browns, and Chicago Bears and was an assistant coach at the collegiate level for the University of Arizona, Syracuse University, and University of Massachusetts.
