Joseph Schwartz was Professor of Structural Design at the Department of Architecture, ETH Zurich, Switzerland, since February 2008. He has now retired in January 2023 and remains a Professor Emeriti at ETH. Prof. Schwartz was an associate Investigator in the NCCR Digital Fabrication since 2016 and was a principal investigator in Phase 2. Since 2002, he has owned a civil engineering office in Zug which is involved in the design of building structures in close cooperation with several leading Swiss architects. In addition, he is Chairman of the Swiss Structural Masonry Code Committee. Schwartz obtained his diploma in civil engineering from ETH Zurich in 1981 and his doctoral degree in 1989. His dissertation on the subject of non linear stability of masonry walls and reinforced concrete columns was awarded the ETH Silver Medal.
