David Rabinowitch – Drawings of a Tree | Baumzeichnungen
David Rabinowitch began to concern himself with the subject of the tree in the early seventies. Starting out from a certain tree in New York´s Central Park, he produced many studies in his studio during the years up to 1980, transcending reality in the search for the truth behind natures´s order of things. These studies, ranging from simple sketches to complex drawings of remarkable freedom, complement the artist´s Construction of Vision drawings, already well known through exhibitions and publications, their starting point being the architecture of Romanesque churches.
This book contains a broad selection from the artist´s series of tree drawings; the accompanying text puts the drawings in the context of a constructive, creative treatment of the theme of nature, atreatement which we encounter, for example, in the works of such exponents of modern painting as Cézanne, Seurat, Mondrian or Matisse.
