Carol Rhodes, Piano

Carol Rhodes, pianist, teacher and accompanist received her Masters Degree in Piano Performance from the University of Michigan and her Doctoral degree in Collaborative Piano from the University of Arizona. She received the Cabell grant which supported her interest in the works of John Cage.  This led to a degree thesis and several performances of the works of Cage in collaboration with dancers exploring the unique sonorities of the prepared piano.

She has taught at Pima Community College;  Sweet Briar College, The University of Oregon, Viterbo University and the University of Wisconsin. In addition she taught piano privately in her home studio and in a local Community music venue.

Performances include solos with the Detroit Symphony;  Pensacola Symphony;  and the University of Michigan Arts Orchestra at Interlochen where she won a concerto competition with Liszt E flat Piano Concerto.

In 2020 she received “Teacher of the Year” award from the local chapter of MTNA in La Crosse, Wisconsin. This award reinforced her belief that all people of all ages and abilities can learn and reap the rewards that music affords–given a timely opportunity and a supportive environment.

Carol teaches both traditional and Suzuki piano and enjoys working with students of all ages, levels and backgrounds.  She strongly believes in the value of music as an enrichment to one’s daily life.
