Born in 1971 in Galilee, Occupied Palestine, Jumana Emil Abboud is a Palestinian visual artist who currently works and resides in Jerusaem. Jumana spent a large portion of her life in Canada, which is where she first started to study the arts at the Ontario College of Arts in Toronto, from 1989 to 1991. She later went to complete a BFA and a post graduate degree from The Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem. Jumana has participated in several solo and group exhibitions around the world, with her most important exhibitions taking place during the Sharjah Biennial and Venice Biennial.

Abboud’s work features several materials and tools, employing videos, drawings, and texts. This diversity in approach gives her an advantage and flexibility in portraying her ideas. Migrating to Canada and spending most of her adult teenage life there plays a major role in her identity and approach to issues that tackle it. Her work seeks to create a dialogue on recent Palestinian issues, while also exploring the history and memories of Palestinians and their culture that was lost due to the occupation.
