Pianist Nigel Hall has shared the lead single from his forthcoming solo albumSpiritual, due out May 14th via Regime Music Group.

Entitled, “Wake Me”, the new song shared on Friday hears Hall groove along with an impressively smooth vocal performance throughout the 4:38 minute track. “Wake Me” doesn’t try to do too much, and Hall’s natural singing abilities shine alongside a strong, soulful rhythm and catchy bass lines. Minimalist funk perfection at its finest.

“What made me love this song is the chords and the lyrics,” Hall said of the album’s lead single. “I can identify with the words. I know what it feels like to dream of things you want to continue when you wake up. It is just a vibe, all the way through.”

“Wake Me”, along with the other tracks to be included on Spiritual, were recorded at Jellowstone Studios in Richmond, VA.

“My last record was more of a traditional soul record. I feel like it was a lot of what other people wanted me to sound like,” Hall added in a press statement in regards to his 2015 solo debut, Ladies & Gentlemen… Nigel Hall. “With this album, I didn’t want this to sound like another release. I want people to know that I am my own entity and that I want to explore different areas of music,” commented Nigel on the direction of the album. “This record I had full creative control. I feel like every artist records one record in their career for themselves. This one is it for me. I feel like if no one hears this record, I’ll still be able to sleep at night because I know there is something real out in the world that I put there.”
