Mountain Viscacha on Cerro Tololo

The viscacha is a type of rodent that may look like a rabbit at first glance but has little actual relation; similar to the javelinas inhabiting the area around Kitt Peak National Observatory and their resemblance to pigs, the viscacha evolved to look similar to rabbits via convergent evolution.

This mountain viscacha was spotted around Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory, a program of NSF's NOIRLab.
