Patrick Murphy wins his 1,200th game as Alabama softball coach

Alabama softball coach Patrick Murphy won his 1,200th game as the Crimson Tide coach in a 3-2 win over Samford on Wednesday.

"Just unreal to be at the same program for 27 years, it just does not happen in college athletics anymore, anywhere, any sport. To be here from day one to today is just amazing," Murphy said. "...it's a dream come true really."

Murphy was an assistant head coach when the program was founded in 1997 and took over as head coach in 1999.

Murphy becomes just the 18th coach to cross the milestone and the 11th to do so only at the Division I level. He joins former Tennessee coaches Ralph Weekly and Karen Weekly along with former Texas A&M coach Jo Evans as SEC coaches to do so. He is the ninth coach to win 1,200 games at one school.

Murphy has led the Crimson Tide to the 2012 National Championship and to 13 Women's College World Series Appearances. Alabama has made every Super Regional round except for last season since the round was introduced in 2005.

Murphy holds a career win total of 1,228, which includes 28 wins at Division II's Northwest Missouri State.
