THIRD SPACE* Studio is an art and research-led interdisciplinary architecture practice. We establish our theoretical standpoint amongst our post-modern and post-colonial predecessors, as one of dialogue, mediation and hybridity.

In December 2022, THIRD SPACE* Studio were commissioned to design a praxinoscope inspired exhibition. The praxinoscope is a 19th century animation device that uses materiality, geometry and imaged representation to give the illusion of movement.

Gfeller, a French-Swiss urban photography and multimedia artist, interrogates migration and pilgrimage in Madinah through the lens of reproduction, layered representation, and a narrative marriage of culture and religion.
Early conceptual spatialisations, exploring how a praxinoscope could become an immersive exhibition quality.

The scenography required the design, production and delivery of a temporary and modular structural system, along with mirrored surfaces to reflect the artworks. All surfaces were to be pre-fabricated, and assembled on site.

The artworks, clothed by their own reflections, were curated to relay an immersive experience of place, migration, and mobility for the pilgrim in Madinah.
