Hej! (Hello) I am Swedish Barbie® and I want to welcome you to Sweden, a beautiful land filled with flowers, trees, and clear flowing water. The northernmost part, just above the Arctic Circle, is called the Lappland. Here, the rocky landscape is framed with deep forests filled with reindeer who roam wild. My family and I live in the capital city of Stockholm, often called the Venice of the North because it is surrounded by water and many islands.

While Stockholm is a modern city filled with office buildings and industry, it is also rich in Swedish culture and tradition. Everyday at noon, people from all over the world gather at the Royal Palace to watch the changing of the guards. My country is also famous for its delicious Swedish Smörgåsbord, (a large buffet) which offers lots of fresh fruits, fish, meats, cheese and wonderful desserts. Smörgåsbord is served especially during festive seasons or prepared for special events. In Sweden we enjoy four different seasons, but in June and July, the sun never sets for several weeks. That is why Sweden is called the land of the Midnight Sun. On the longest day of the year, we celebrate the sun with a special festival called Midsummer.

I am wearing a traditional folk costume often worn for Midsummer. My colorful dress, with attached red apron and criss-cross flock vest, is just right for the customary dancing that takes place around the maypole, (a large wooden pole we decorate with green leaves, flowers and ribbons.) We always have fun dancing and playing games around the maypole. In winter, the days are often dark with little or no sunlight at all. That is when we have our Lucia fest. Here, young girls dress in white and wear a wreath of candles on their heads, filling the dark days of winter with warmth and light. We also enjoy lots of winter sports, and many delicious holiday pastries.
