Jan Schoonhoven

Jan Schoonhoven (1914 - 1994) was active/lived in Netherlands.  Jan Schoonhoven is known for Non objective art, performances.

Johannes Jacobus "John" Schoonhoven ( Delft , 26 June 1914 - there, 31 July 1994) was a Dutch visual artist . He was part of the Dutch Nul movement .

Schoonhoven studied from 1930 to 1934 at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague . He worked from 1946 to 1979 at the Central Department of Buildings (former state) PTT . The artistry of Schoonhoven took place in the evenings and weekends.

Together with the artists Armando, Henk Peeters, and Jan Henderikse he founded in the sixties an approach, which opposed Cobra and sought an objective art, which was stripped of any emotional value and where the presence of the artist as a person was obliterated.

Schoonhoven made at the beginning of his career mostly abstract drawings and watercolors. From 1955 came monochrome white reliefs.
