Edition “Die Galerie”, Gotschammel, Wien, 1937. First edition. Part 3 in a series of three books: “Meisterbücher der Photographie”/ 'Master of Photography'. Large-format (approx. 29.7 × 31.7 cm) hardcover with cloth spine. Limited edition of 1,000 unnumbered copies. Each book would be signed by Koppitz. But unfortunately he died unexpectantly (1936) one year before the book was finished and published in 1937. Content: 24 photographic plates with glassine protective sheets. Preface in German, English and French, and so are the titles of the photos. The preface is written by Rudolf Junk. Condition: Generally in good condition. No owner’s entries. The cover is browned The interior is neat and clean, only the endpapers show foxing, virtually no foxing on the leaves. See pictures, they are part of the description of this lot. Rudolf Koppitz: Rudolf Koppitz (1884-1936) was the most important photographer in Austria between the World Wars. His work was an amalgamation of modernism and pictorialism, with landscapes, nudes, dancers and farmers. A very scarce book, this is the only Koppitz monograph ever printed, so the only book featuring his famous work. The photos are very beautiful and captivating. Although the photographs lack the visual edicts and graphics available today, Koppitz magnificent skill and expertise in photography conveys beauty and utmost emotion in every one of his photosgrpahs.
