Galeria Leme presents the solo exhibitions of the Brazilian artist Mariana Mauricio and the Venezuelan artist  Christian Vinck. In her second exhibition in São Paulo, Mariana Mauricio works mainly with the re-signification of imagistic memories through the interference in collected photographs.

About a year ago, in addition to photographs, the artist began collecting objects that she found on her daily routes through the city. During this process of hoarding, she tries to make theoretical connections, seeking similarities between these items.

The idea is that the photos start to have a sculptural quality expressed through these objects. Using strategies of appropriation and modification of the memory of the photographs, the artist questions who used these anonymous objects, while wondering what was the original function and memory of the object itself. The artist will present a new body of work, composed of photographic installations and assemblages.

Christian Vinck presents ALBUM No. 3 / pintura SUDAKA, his first solo exhibition in São Paulo. Through various approaches to the painting from South America, the artist dismantles and revisits certain preconceived ideas about the vernacular painting of that continent. The artist plays with the compositional rules while offering a personal and historical review of its configuration.

Thinking about South America’s painting, not its origin, but his retelling, is a task that points directly to a discussion of the history of the territory in which we live in. The displacements of popular/traditional painting, in moments that are close to the primitivism of their themes, invariably ends up becoming something of a personal nature. So one builds a collection that brings together large and small stories or an inventory, which refers to the deep narratives that are intersected. These aspects are key to Christian Vinck’s exhibition.

Vinck is a self-taught artist who is currently devoted to painting. He is a collector of images and a creator of works that depict and reinterpret several documents and themes inspired by an endless variety of visual stimuli.
