The 90s is the decade that just won't die right now and that's even more true from a style perspective. Onetime trends like grunge, throwback athletic brands, and even JNCO-style jeans are having a moment in the menswear world. Which is to say that interest in the era might be waning.

How can we tell? Because we're starting to see the beginnings of an early-2000s revival brewing, with the popularity of track suits, cargo shorts, and Abercrombie & Fitch on the rise. But one thing we couldn't have foreseen coming back was the awful/awesome trucker hat, once popularized by Ashton Kutcher and made famous by Von Dutch's anything-but-subtle gothic print, nylon mesh and logo-patched version. They were the ultimate status symbol in turn-of-the-century Hollywood, the male version of a Juicy Couture sweatsuit (which, it just so happens, are cool again too), but we were convinced that they were long gone, a thing of the past. Well, think again. Last night, the one man who could make the trucker hat look not only cool but possibly worth trying out for oneself, David Beckham, wore one to the Lakers game in Los Angeles. He topped off his low-key courtside look — faded jeans, worn-in gray tee, three-day stubble — with a hat that featured a yellow bill and a sketch of an eagle and the phrase Spirit of Freedom on it. Meaning that it was basically lifted from a time capsule from 2003.

However, some brands are starting to peddle out that early-aughts nostalgia in small doses, brand like Palm Angels, Off-White, and Amiri, and playing up the SoCal vibes they suggest. So here's a few of our favorite (gulp) David Beckham-like trucker hats, below, a phrase we definitely didn't think we'd be saying in 2017 (but nothing really surprises us these days).
