Nigel Henderson
Plant Delta Nº 5
Plant Delta Nº 5
1961
In the early sixties, Nigel Henderson, who had served as a pilot during the Second World War, incorporated modern technologies such as macro and aerial photography into his painting practice. These scientific tools, which are used for military purposes and in topography, allowed him to look at the territory in a fresh light and offer new visions of the world. Henderson made a pictorial intervention on photographs taken from the air. Devoid of any geographical references, we can still recognise the outline and forms of deltas, small archipelagos and, in other series, field patterns.

Taken from images of real places and photographic maps of the territory, the work nevertheless configures an imaginary geography.
