Vo Tran Chau graduated from the Fine Art University of Ho Chi Minh City. Châu is interested in investigating contemporary society through individuals’ relations with each other and with the public. Born into a family of traditional embroiderers, she understands the languages of threads and fabrics, and chooses textile as the materials for her art practice. She employs found fabrics and used clothing, and items that are deeply personal and reflect private histories of different individuals to explore their connections with contemporary society in Vietnam. Châu’s notable exhibitions include: ‘Suzhou Documents’ (Suzhou, China, 2016); ‘EVA International, Ireland’s Biennale’ (Limerick, Irelan, 2016); ‘Tracing’ (Saigon Domaine, Ho Chi Minh City, 2016); ‘Petit and Smooth’ (Nhasan Studio, Hanoi, 2015); ‘March: Art Walk’ (Sao La, Ho Chi Minh city, 2015); ‘Black fog’ (Nha San Collective, Hanoi, 2015); ‘Born from the land’ (San Art, Ho Chi Minh city, 2012); ‘My sister’ (San Art, Ho Chi Minh city, 2011).
