PIPA Prize 2018 nominee.

Alvaro Seixas holds a PhD in Visual Languages from UFRJ. The artist is also a professor in the Department of Drawing at the School of Fine Arts, UFRJ. His most recent work explores drawing and figuration, often appropriating pop culture figures. These works, charged with an acid humor, criticize and make a provocation to the art system and its mechanisms of power and status. Throughout his career, the artist has also developed works that explore abstraction in painting and how this language relates to the current artistic-cultural landscape.
