Renata Lucas earned a BA in Fine Arts at the Universidade Federal de Campinas, devoting herself to sculpture. The artist moved to São Paulo in 1992 and completed a Post-Graduate degree at Unicamp and Universidade de São Paulo.
Her first solo exhibition was in early 2001, at the Gallery 10,20×3,60, in São Paulo, an independent gallery formed by a group of artists.

Renata Lucas was the winner of the 1st edition of PIPA in 2010. At the Finalists Exhibition in MAM-Rio, Lucas presented the work ‘Denominador Comum’ from the series ‘Primeira Nota para Flores Raras’. The work, which is now a part of the permanent collection of MAM-Rio, consisted of an intervention on the facade of the Museum. The artist participated in the 55th edition of the Venice Biennale in 2009 and at dOCUMENTA (13), in Kassel, Germany in 2012. Since 2011, Lucas has been a member of the Board of CAPACETE Entretenimento, a residency programme based in Rio de Janeiro. In 2015, Lucas had a solo exhibition titled ‘Fontes e Sequestros’ at Galerie Neugerriemschneider in Germany.
