Jan Simon is the Academic Director of the International Search Fund Center at IESE Business School.
Jan worked for nearly two decades in the investment industry, including Salomon Brothers, Merrill Lynch and Goldman Sachs. He co-headed the Emerging Markets Trading Desk at Salomon Brothers, set up the Continental Sales-Trading Desk at Goldman Sachs and was a member of Merrill Lynch’ Hedge Fund Advisory Group.
Jan has taught at Berkeley (Haas), Cambridge (Judge), IESE, INSEAD, Oxford (Said), Rotman and SFU (Beedie). He has won numerous teaching awards and The Economist rated him as one of the Top #20 Business School Professors in the world.
His interest lays in the intersection of finance with other disciplines such as finance and entrepreneurship or finance and ethics. He often teaches courses pertaining to these intersections for example entrepreneurial finance, finance and ethics or business ethics.
His research has been published in academic journals such as the Journal of Network Theory in Finance and the British Journal of Management. It has also been discussed in the press by Bloomberg Businessweek, Financial Times, Financial news, The Hedge Fund Journal and SCOPE.
Jan holds a LL.B. and LL.M. from the Katholieke Universtiteit Leuven, an MBA from IESE Business School, earned his Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Essex, holds the ICD.D Designation for corporate directors from the Rotman School of Management and earned his AMP at Harvard Business School.
He served the 1st Battalion of Parachutists and Commandos -Special Operations Regiment-, as well as NATO’s Special Intervention Forces -ACE Mobile Forces-. He holds both the green and red beret.
