Heiner Goebbels

Heiner Goebbels, born 1952, is a German composer and director living in Frankfurt am Main and Berlin. He holds a degree in sociology and music, composes for ensembles and orchestra and develops music- theatre pieces, scenic concerts, radio plays, sound and video installations. In 2012, his book Aesthetics of Absence was published. He has received several international awards, including the European Theatre Prize, the International Ibsen Prize, Prix Italia and Grammy nominations. From 2012 to 2014, he was Artistic Director of the Ruhrtriennale, from 1999 to 2018 Professor at the Institute for Applied Theatre Studies of the University of Giessen; in 2018, he received at the same University the first appointment for the newly established Georg- Büchner-Professorship.
