In the "Fresh Sheen" series of tableware designed by fine artist Gao Ludi in collaboration with Shanghai Tang, the paradigm of "safe colours" is used to represent senses of taste and smell. The artist wanted to create a sense of fulfilment and induce freshness through a light color palette and abstract imagery of water and grass.
The Chinese word "Xian" translates into "fresh" and it can be separated into 2 Chinese characters, meaning each "fish" and "sheep". The Chinese character "fish" positioned in the center of the plate symbolises "always full", while on rice jars and other utensils, it signifies good fortune, fulfilment, and hope.
