Visions of Asturias: Imprescindibles – Chema Madoz, regar lo escondido

As part of the exhibition “Visions of Asturias,” the Cultural Office of the Embassy of Spain in Washington, D.C. screens the last of the three documentaries about the participating photographers.

The Visions of Asturias exhibition, displayed on the outer fence of the Former Residence of the Ambassadors of Spain, illustrates the distinctive and personal vision of four different Spanish National Photography Prize winners of this particular region in northern Spain.

As an extension of this open-air photography show, the Cultural Office will screen three documentaries about three of the photographers included in the exhibition. Next in line, and the last one, is Imprescindibles: Chema Madoz, regar lo escondido, a documentary about photographer Chema Madoz.

Imprescindibles – Chema Madoz, regar lo escondido

This biographical documentary about Spanish photographer Chema Madoz presents his photographs and sheds light on his creative process through various interviews with Madoz and with other artists, writers and photographers who have reflected on his work –such as painter Fernando Bellver, gallery owner Borja Casani, writer Menchu Gutiérrez or exhibition curator Alejandro Castellote– examining the resonances that link him to Joan Brossa, José Val del Omar, surrealism and the gregueries of Gómez de la Serna.

“Chema Madoz discovers the extraordinary within the everyday.” This phrase perhaps summarizes the main characteristic of Chema Madoz’s work. Winner of the National Photography Award in 2000, Madoz has followed a path that, far from stagnating or repeating itself, is always in constant evolution.
