The Vatican Apostolic Library Meets Maria Lai

May 20, 2022

The Vatican Apostolic Library is happy to announce that it is now possible to reserve a place to see the exhibition "THE ART OF WEAVING FREEDOM. Maria Lai Meets The Vatican Apostolic Library" on display at the Vatican Library from May 27, 2022 to July 15, 2022.
We are pleased to welcome visitors to this exhibition which takes place within the Library itself. This is Maria Lai's first show in the Vatican, created in collaboration with the Maria Lai Archive and Foundation, the Vatican Museums and the Diocese of Lanusei, as well as with the support of the Department of Tourism, Crafts and Commerce of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia. This project offers a fresh look at the Sardinian artist's work, by highlighting aspects of her artistic research on the theme of books and writing. It is here that she engages in a dialogue with the Vatican's collections. From among Lai's artistic works, we present a wide-ranging corpus of books, some dating from the 1970s, but also including the Telai, the Oli di parole (1997 and 1998), for which she took inspiration from verses by Federico García Lorca, and the great Lenzuolo (1989), a work exuding creativity and imagination.
