She was a passenger ferry built in 1927 at the Cammell Laird shipyard, Birkenhead, Liverpool, for the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company. Requisitioned for service in WW2, as a transport ship, she made three trips to Dunkirk and rescued over 4,000 troops. After the war, she was refitted and her funnel shortened and she remained in service until 1965.

RM2PFX20F–Svenska Amerika Linien's ships M/S Kungsholm and M/S Gripsholm meet in the Stockholm archipelago in July 1930. The ships built in the 1920s were sister ships and the most modern ships on the Atlantic at the time. Gripsholms with a length of 168.5 meters and a width of 22.7 meters and Kungsholm, which was 181.32 and 22 meters wide, were veritable floating luxury palaces and celebrities of the time traveled on them. Both ships ended their days as scrap.

RM2KB0WA2–The midship saloon of the the three year old Inman Company steamship 'City of New York' after she ran up on a reef called Daunt's Rock in March, 1864. Held firm, and in mild weather, the passengers and crew had little difficulty abandoning ship and no casualties were reported. She had sailed from New York across the Atlanti and was approaching Queenstown Harbour (now called Cobh) on the County Cork coast of Ireland.
