Charles Atlas (born Angelo Siciliano 1892 –1972) was an Italian-American bodybuilder best remembered as the developer of a bodybuilding method and its associated exercise programme. The advertising campaign featuring his name and body was possibly one of the longest-lasting campaigns of all time. Atlas trained himself to develop his body from that of a 'scrawny weakling', eventually becoming the most popular bodybuilder of his day. He marketed his first bodybuilding course in 1922 – vintage 1970s graphics for editorial use only.
